Loved him in Monty Python, I loved his doco and accompanying book on the Crusades...and the sad thing is, given his recent health problems, I was sure he was going to be the next Python to die. I don't like being proved right in situations like this...

Yes, all that and more. Loved him as in "Brian" (not just as Brian's mum but also as the hermit who took a vow of silence). Loved him as the Crunchy Frog Salesman, but even more so as the man who wrote some of Python's funniest sketches (e.g. Elizabeth pornography smugglers, or the Funniest Joke in the World).

Notwithstanding his contribution to Python, Terry's Viking saga (and accompanying film) were good fun, and his docos on medieval lives and 'barbarians' in the ancient world even more so. Who said history couldn't (or shouldn't) be fun?

RIP Terry ... :(

As a lifelong Python fanatic, I always thought that (other than Gilliam, who rarely "acted") Jones was the most limited in terms of the types of roles he played. He excelled at playing middle-aged pepperpots (especially in Life of Brian), and the typical straight man "city gent" type, but he didn't have the versatility of the others. His true strengths were in his writing and in directing. He and Palin were the ones who wrote most of the visually interesting Python skits (the ones shot outdoors), and his direction in Life of Brian was absolutely superb.

I always loved reading Cleese's memories of the endless writing room battles he used to have with Jones.

I, too, thought that Jones would be the next to go. Back in 2014, when they were doing the live Python reunion shows you could tell that Jones was struggling to remember his lines and that the others had to ad lib around him when he faltered.

RIP.

Ah, yes - I remember seeing the picture of the Librarian at the organ, and it always reminded me of something, but I couldn't remember what. Thanks, Tony! :)

As for the cartoon ... LOL!! I love it. ;)
