I finally read the third book, and it's a good end.
Twisty, and some fast talking, but it'll do.
The end reminded me of something and I finally got it--
it's faintly similar to the end of Good Omens, where the connection to the source of X's powers is eliminated, yet X still has them because (as I see it), they always had the power, and because they believe it is innate to them, it becomes so, and they get to keep the powers.
