    DISCWORLD IN CATALAN!

...more news, because the following Discworld books in Catalan were officially announced the other day... MORT, SMALL GODS AND THE COLOUR OF MAGIC! I think it's a brilliant choice! Oh, before you ask... Mort will be called "Morth" in Catalan because -just like in French- Death is...

SPOILERS The Colour of Magic Discussion *Spoilers*

I definitely need to re-read "The colour of magic". I remember I didn't love it the first time I read it (maybe because it's a bit more chaotic and extravagant). It's an absolutely valid starting point, though, but I know it has put off some potential fans. As I told you, "Equal Rites" and...

SPOILERS The Colour of Magic Discussion *Spoilers*

Unlike many later DW fans, I also started with, and loved, the Colour of Magic. (I came in at around the same time Equal Rites had been published, so just a little later than Tony but thought I had to start there as they were a series.) I really think it helped that I was already a fan of the...

SPOILERS The Colour of Magic Discussion *Spoilers*

lol I started with Colour Of Magic because that was the only Discworld book at the time. :)

    SPOILERS Hogfather Discussion **Spoilers**

...with the cast etc. It's a good film -- I might go so far as to say, the best of all three Discworld films (the others being The Colour of Magic and Going Postal). Don't get me wrong: the other two have their moments, but TCOM is ... well, disjointed. And GP is fine, except when it messes...

Reminds me of the Beatles song on the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band : (it was thirty years ago today)

    Happy 37th Anniversary for TCoM

November 24, 1983 The Colour of Magic was published. (And a year or so later, the SF Book Club edition was published, and I read it...)

    NY Comic con on now

...on the size of the book and number of CDs. :) The made-for-TV films did it, more or less. "Hogfather" did it pretty well. The "Colour of Magic/Light Fantastic" movie did well, too. There were some bits about the "Going Postal" movie I didn't like, but it worked. Heck, even the animated...

    Rihanna P new book

Can't wait for this. I was a big fan of the series when I was younger and will definitely get this as my eldest daughter's introduction as a random Christmas present. By the way, to make you all feel old she's now being read The Colour of Magic at bedtimes!

    Dusty Miller & Terry Pratchett

The Dryads were part of The Colour of Magic. :) They capture Rincewind and show him Twoflower in the Temple of Bel-Shamharoth. At the critical moment, Rincewind escapes death (and Death), only to be flung through magic into the Temple of the Soul-Eater, the Sender of Eiggghhhunnnnngggghhhh ...

    Dusty Miller & Terry Pratchett

...generations, built up relationships with certain ancient tree spirits. I wonder if the dryads in the Light Fantastic (or was it colour of magic?) had anything to do with Terry’s friendship here? Was Terry particularly into the New Age movement back in the 70s...? A lot of the things that...

    SPOILERS Rincewind Character Discussion

...might want to avoid this topic – it’s up to you, but YOU WERE WARNED. We first meet Rincewind, the deadbeat wizard, in The Colour of Magic. We learn that his main skill (apart from being a polyglot) is running away from danger. And this is a good thing as he gets more than his fair...

    Found on Utube

He did indeed! And it was wonderful that he was brought back to voice Death in the "The Colour of Magic" telemovie. (Although Ian Richardson didn't do too bad a job in Hogfather).

SPOILERS Discussion of Good Omens, the series

...voice. Sorry, Brian Cox, but that wasn't how Death should sound. Christopher Lee got it right in the Discworld cartoons and The Colour of Magic. I know Good Omens Death isn't Discworld Death, but the voices should be similar. - Death's look - those eye sockets were just a bit too creepy. -...

Tributes to Sir Terry for his new website

...here, but would like to share it to a wider audience: I discovered Discworld via my younger brother, who nagged me into reading The Colour of Magic, shortly after it came out in paperback. I was hooked. I joined an online group and enjoyed sharing my love of all things Sir Terry related...

    It reminds me of something.

...so similar, had I written the book, I'd have been accused of stealing the idea. I guess there are only so many stories in the world. Having said all that, Terry definitely used other writer's ideas as satire. The Colour of Magic, for example, is full of nods to other writers and their worlds.

So...is The City Watch going to be a TV show or..?

...before we see it (as usual)? Or (naturally) will we have to hunt down DVDs of it, if they even exist? :( (I never got to see "The Colour of Magic" until I finally managed to track down a DVD of it. It was the only one in the shop) :( I'm so SICK of overseas books, games and DVDs being taxed...

Rincewind - Where is the love?

Having started with The Colour of Magic, Rincewind was the first lead Discworld character that I encountered. Therefore, for nostalgic reasons if no other, he remains one of my favourite characters. I have always enjoyed stories about wizards and thus the idea of one who was hopelessly inept was...

    So, you've discovered Discworld...

That's kind of one reason why I don't agree that starting at the beginning is necessarily the best idea. If I had started with The Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic I probably would have given up on the series. To me, everything in the series before Mort was inferior and difficult to get...
