brick jokes and continuity nods

Some time ago I posted that I thought maybe Pratchett had the longest brick joke: the comet joke, which began in TLF in 1986 and landed in TSOD-1 in 1999, taking 13 years to complete.
I recently was made aware by randomactsofthinkingthings on tumblr that pTerry did an even longer 'continuity nod' (what they call it when it isn't a joke). In G!G! (1889) there's a scene in which Vetinari describes his view of the universe and Vimes asks him why he gets out of bed.
The question is answered in UA (2009), 20 years later.

It could well be the case. I do believe that Terry had running gags in the books and that his mind contained all sorts of timelines and plot lines stretching off into past and future books (see my comment about Rincewind in the Rincewind discussion).
