Fawcett, Heather: Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter (2026)
YA. Light cozy fantasy romance. Agnes is a trifle obsessive. She continues to run the struggling cat shelter she and her late husband had started in Montreal, Canada, but the magicians' battle that incidentally blasted her street and left a gaping hole where her front door used to be has left her and the (currently) 48 cats without shelter or heat, and it's late fall. The landlady is "only" charging her half the rent while she searches for a new storefront, but nobody wants to rent to a cat lady, no matter how rapidly she finds homes for the feral strays she rescues. When something draws her to a small storefront whose tenants all leave suddenly, abandoning their wares, her sister is suspicious but it's her last chance, so she decides she can ignore the customers who go directly to the trapdoor in the back room. Sale of magical artefacts is against the law, after all, and the cellar is none of her business.
Fun to read, and it was not at all certain which suitor was going to win. Nor which magic worker.
