This is another of Anthony Horowitz's series of books, so far we have had:

Ravens Gate
Nightrise
Evil Star
Necropolis

And there is one more still to come, this series is about 5 children who must band together and save humanity from the old ones. It is set on earth but there is quite a lot of fantasy involved.

I'm going to be starting to read this series soon, and they do look good! I really do enjoy series books.
