If you haven't been to one, they're lots of fun!
Just checked the airfare again $1,271+ mnbshp + banquet + hotel + transport = total $2,240 nearly £1,500 too much with the Worldcon later on. :(
:( Ouch. That is a lot.
Yes the price of oil have made the airfares really expensive, going from Heathrow to Houston then San Antonio back to Heathrow is in the region of $1700 plus $165 from Edinburgh return fare. :( hoping for a cheaper in the British Airways sale next month that's why we have not booked it yet as we normally do it early.

That's insane! They're going to price most people out of trips, and where will that leave their business?
Business and government only, which is what "they" seem to want: if people can't travel, they can't get away from local oppression. See Jean ValJean and his need for a passport to walk to the next town and get a room in a country inn.

Hooray for video, anyway; since Sir Terry is doing the final polish on the manuscript of Raising Steam, his chances of attending NADWCon 2013 are "negligible" but video chats are promised, and "something special" - I speculate without information that maybe, just maybe, "bedtime stories" will happen via video.

edited to add: And they did!
