Someone elsewhere asked why Murderbot (MB) writes his diaries. I have a theory.
MB used to belong to The Company, which would routinely download and
wipe the secunits' memories after each rental. But MB, having discovered
the pleasure of media, wants to keep some memories. That's why it has found
ways to hide data from the purge systems. Its diaries are exactly that - a
system to record and keep its memories, which are then hidden in various
data caches. Now that it has friendly associates, it can send them a copy
as a letter, thus creating an off-site backup of recent memories.
