as the name of the topic suggests what would be the ONE book you would take onto a desert island with you : :

mine would be the neutronium alchemist by peter f hamilton as its huge and i hopefully have been rescued by the time i finished it.

well, can they be legendary/mythological books, like the (presumably, working) Book Of The Dead?
If I can have a mythological book-thing, then it'd probably be either the Creator's Book or some form of book that listed the answers to all the mysteries of the universe
if not then probably the original book of Winnie The Pooh stories, just because I used to love him!

No Kindle, shame, I don't like them but, that would be the perfect place to have one, providing you could re-charge it there. I guess they do need to be re-charged, like a cell phone? Though I suppose you could take several years supplies of batteries too.
I have no idea what book I would chose. :|

Depending on which one you use the new one is month before re-charge, the keyboard one 2 months, if you don't keep the wifi on.

Ok, lemme think......if I was on a desert island I would want something uplifting and hopeful and heroic, but I would need something practical.

Assuming I had all practical needs, I would choose Lord Of The Rings.
If I didn't, the SAS Survival Handbook

I am being far too practical right? I am thinking "Hell if I am on a deserted island I would be too busy to read what with gathering water and wood and food and fishing and staying alive...."

None of you have ever been alone on a deserted island have you? I have.... well it was only for one day until the boat could get their outboard fixed on the dinghy and get back to me but they missed the high tide and couldnt get over the reef til the next high tide .... but it was ten hours!!!!!

I have seen a lot of Man vs. Nature. Also, I have survived Ikea on a saturday, thay should give badges for that. + I used to be a girl scout. So I'd rather use my paper ration on something practical and soft..unless it was a book on Edible Plants and Animals On Your Desert Island. Including Recipes!! (I just got sidetracked looking at the smilies. There is even a Spongebob! )
