Just wondering: any bonfires, Tony? I seem to recall there were always bonfires on Guy Fawkes Night. (But those probably disappeared about the same time as little urchins asking 'Penny for the Guy, sir?')

Life seems to have been more 'picturesque' then, though undoubtedly shorter, dirtier, and more full of diseases. Period dramas seem to have kept the 'picturesque' angle and lost the rest. *shrug*

No bonfires that I'm aware of. It was a much bigger event when I was a kid where we had a bonfire (with Guy Fawkes in effigy) and fireworks.

Not wishing to be a killjoy, but I am always concerned about how stressed pets can get with the noise of fireworks. Fortunately for us , our rescue greyhound was neither up nor down with the noise. Also in Dundee and Glasgow the police and fire brigade had to deal with a few incidents of some young people engaging in violence and anti social behaviour. Having said that many folks would have had a safe, enjoyable celebration.
