I found two of the series in the Friends of the Library thrift shop. They are books 1 and 3 of at least five, and I will look for the rest. The Mettlestone family is large and close-knit, and their alternate universe is full of magic and MG adventure. I found the resolution of book 1 a little annoyingly paternalistic, but book 3 didn't have that problem, so I have hopes for the rest. Don't expect the world-building to hold up to a moment's thought - these are kids' books.
