Patrick Stewart was well-known for being a Shakespearean actor when he started out. It's almost impossible not to bring your A-game when you're doing Shakespeare - there's so much phenomenal material to choose from.

I remember Stewart playing Sejanus when the BBC did Robert Graves'
I, Claudius in the 70s, with other wonderful actors like Brian Blessed, Derek Jacobi, and Sian Phillips. He was wonderful.
He was also all-round decent person, which is essential. Too many performers think that "It's all about me", which sucks.
Vale Sir Patrick.
