Robson, Justina, editor: The Tales of Catt & Fisher (2020) subtitled The Art of the Steal, in a shared-world series titled "After The Wars", when people are beginning to pick up the pieces, resettle the devastated areas, etc.
Doctors Catt and Fisher first appeared in Adrian Tchaikovsky's novel, Redemption's Blade.

I have not read any of the works in the series besides this one, but luckily that isn't necessary. The first tale in this anthology is also by Adrian Tchaikovsky; the others are by Freda Warrington, Juliet E. McKenna, and K.T. Davies.
The good doctors are medical practitioners but only as a sideline, not to say cover story. They are competent alchemists, and buyers and sellers of magical artifacts. Fisher is the tall one. Catt, whom Fisher thinks is probably older, owns the shop but they share everything - well, almost everything - and they travel to acquire more interesting artifacts, selling the ones they have lost interest in, always at a considerable markup of course. Acquiring new ones sometimes only costs them a night's incarceration, or a bit of difficult scrambling to escape a troop of guards, or occasionally the effort of creating one when it might get them something better.
