Radio 4 Extra are currently repeating their excellent adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Night Watch. It's on every Saturday for the next few weeks - there's a link to the first one below. Please note: - these will only be available for a limited time.
Yay! Night Watch is my favourite Pterry novel from his "dark" period. The BBC adaptations are absolutely superb. If you haven't heard them before, do yourselves a favour and listen to them now.
That's Philip Jackson, a very versatile TV and film actor as well as audiobook reader. His most notable recent role on TV was Chief Inspector Japp in the television series Poirot, where he made up to look like this. He also played Japp in the BBC radio adaptations of the various Poirot books, and Albert in the adaptation of Mort.
I think he's an excellent Vimes. His world-weary and slightly sarcastic voice is perfect for Vimes.
What about Carcer and Lord Vetinari? I thought Carcer was pretty much spot on. Not so sure about Vetinari, but he plays a marginal (though crucial) part here.
I also thought they did a fine job with the "Old Tom" part.
Tiny pick though - I would have loved to hear that scene in full. It always cracks me up.
True. They've done it for Agatha Christie and Douglas Adams and other authors - why not Terry?
Maybe they figured - oh s***! Tony Robinson's done a recording of these, and also Stephen, and Celia Imrie, and... so we don't want to be in competition with them, or we cut into their profits! Which is noble and all, but still...
