When we went to see the Avengers on sunday night, I'd just read the part of the book where
the woman in the cinema throttles the man at the counter for refusing her vouchers. The man refused Mr Dotsie's voucher for a free ticket, so I told them both about the book and the poor fella looked pretty worried - I had to explain that I wasn't planning to do the same, honest!

I think i've recomended it to everyone at this stage and I even lent my copy to my brother who is alien to bookmarks . I warned him as my copy is a first edition signed and thankfully it came back in good nick. Not to start any arguments with anyone but it suprised me that someone who wrote Doctor Who books produced such a good story. The sequel is equally good if not better.

Gave in and ordered both the books as well. Don't get free postage unless I spend ove £25 for Irish orders so stuck with the Book Depository . Came to eleven Euro each but I had a 10% off voucher so it wasn't to far off the amazon price in the end. [/quote]
I have not as yet decided to buy Half Sick of Shadows the blurb did not do it any favours, in two minds whether to buy it or not, the reviews I have read were not that good for it, may just get that for my Kindle instead :twisted: or as a library book and I can't remember the last time I had a book out from the library,I just use it for DVD rentals.

Just ordered The Sound and The Fury by William Faulkner printed by the Folio Society. They are printing it in 14 different colours and standard alongside italic text to allow you to work out which parallel stream of conciousness you are reading this time. I tried reading the book years ago and gave up as it makes Ulysses seem a doddle to follow but this was how Faulkner wanted the book printing originally. At least Joyce wrote whole sections from one point of view at a time, Faulkner changes from sentence to sentence as to where and when the action is taking place.
