Season Two of Dead Boy Detectives was never a guarantee, and it was never actually greenlit by Netflix. They announced that the show wouldn't be renewed a few months back (about 2 months after it was released, I think). I don't think this particular show cancellation has anything to do with Gaiman's current legal battles.
