It's a bit nosy But I don't mind

When mC was new I recieved a pm from her with some questions about the forum and a game I was running. After that we kept in touch via pm, facebook and gmail chat.

When she visited her father (he's Dutch ) during the Christmas period we went to the cinema together, and we really liked each other After that I visited her in Budapest.

I am a nosy old biddy, but I'm glad I asked. Yay An internet romance...I wonder if that's going to become more and more common with the amount of time everyone spends on the internet these days.

I want to go as one of the witches, or a seamstress of negotiable affection! I think Magrat seems most likely. I could do the flowers in wispy blonde hair and rings on my fingers.

Hey! I have to buy a ticket too. Does anyone want my firstborn child? Price negotiable.

EEEEEEE! I have signed up! I can't wait! Why is August 2012 so far away?! I've never been to one of these before, and I don't know anyone, but I thought what the heck, discworld fans are bound to be crazy and fantastic people, so, I shall tootle along and have fun. Any hints/tips on what to expect? How to behave? lol

Lifechild they are mad, chaotic, busy and loads of fun. There *does* seem to be an issue with not enough of the special beers and ales that are requested but maybe this time they'll have it sorted out. There are loads of events, the guests are always interesting and glad to see us and of course there's things to buy etc. Scan around on the con website and there are faqs etc and as time passes just keep doing that.

I've booked myself checking in on the Friday rather than two days before as I did last time which is a leap of faith on my part as we are on tenterhooks waiting to hear if we're moving from India to England for the next phase of our life. If that ends up happening I won't need to go in early to get over jet lag!

In my experience, Pratchett fans are amongst the nicest people in the world. The beauty of a fandom specific con is that right off you have something in common with everyone else there. You can get as involved as you want to, or sit on the sidelines and experience the fun. I think most people who go to these are determined to go again and to get more involved when they do.

To anyone not sure about going may I heartily recommend it.

The large number of events happening all the time means that there is nearly always something you want to go to, or you can sit in the bar and chat. There are already over 250 people signed up so as usual it is selling fast.

The whole experience is great fun and you soon start talking to people you have never met before and feel part of the group. After all, I met Jan, Sjoerd, Pooh, Dotsie and Who's Wee Dug at last years convention and still joined this forum afterwards

Guys - I was TERRIFIED when I decided to book for it, but the lure of meeting pooh in the flesh was just too much and I HAD to go and I had such a ball meeting everyone - MAD was the icing on the cake although I was a little taken aback at first with the scale of his geekiness :twisted:

Like everyone's saying you don't need to do anything except be there really - it's impossible not to find something that you can do to any cowardy custard comfort zone and the people are amazingly friendly, eccentric and happy - and the people watching is literally out of this world

At DWCon there will be:

Well in theory there may be ICE trains from Germany direct to London by then, through the tunnel and it is a 5 minute walk from the station they would come in at to the one for Birmingham which would then take about another hour to get you to the convention. You might not need a ship

With 250 places gone by friday, I'd buy membership now and sell it on later if I couldn't afford to go (you can't sell it yourself, but last year the website said they would do it for you).

Very true Dotsie, and it's an appreciating asset as the price for attending goes up as the event gets closer.

A thought I had yesterday as I had a scare over the dress I want to get for Rotterdam (method of payment not the actual price as I have a boring prob with PayPal atm and it won't take the payment any other way) and with people having to watch the pennies

Would anyone be willing to share rooms at Birmingham to get some saving in that way? I know it's slightly dodgy but having met Dotsie and talking to Meer so much I would be happy to room-share with either lady so we can split the cost and I promise not to corrupt younger forum ladies too much if there's people up for thart?

Not certain but I think the hotel do family suites too so we could maybe get 3 or four in on the deal :
