The apple+ tv series, based on The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells.
I am not technically watching the actual show because I don't do streaming services, and because even if did, I would not want to give apple any extra money, but I love the books. So I have been watching youtube Reaction videos, which often show clips of the significant action, and reading discussions online.

So anyway, from what I've seen, it's very good. The changes made to make it tv were approved and in many cases suggested by the author, who says to think of it as "good fanfic".

(I'm sure there are nuances and great moments I'm missing, but I figure someday there will be a dvd or whatever format follows that, and either I give apple money then or I get it secondhand. They might get money from me but it will be for physical media.)

I gather that appletv+ may not even be available outside North America, but I think youtube is. Anyway, the books are great and I think Pterry would have liked them.

AppleTV is available in many countries (including Australia, so I assume the UK is included too!).

The Murderbot TV show is done very well - I also love the books, and was concerned that when Alexander Skaarsgard was announced to be producing and also playing the role that they'd make SecUnit a "male" rather than non-gendered, but they didn't do that - they have maintained using the 'it' pronoun for Murderbot, which is as it should be.

The humour is done well, there are some great clips shown of "The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon" (the show within the show) and although I don't recall much of the detail of the plot of the first novella, I think they're sticking with the broad strokes of it fairly well, even if a lot of the fine detail has been modified for this adaptation.

I only hope it's doing well enough that they get more seasons, so that we can meet ART and go on further adventures with Murderbot and the PreservationAux team.
