The film sequel itself was announced maybe a year or so ago, but just recently they have confirmed the returning voice cast plus a few new actors.

Terry did have an idea for a Maurice sequel (The Redoubtable Maurice) featuring Maurice as a ship's cat - I think the filmmakers have taken that idea and done their own thing (using their own title: The Amazing Maurice - The Waters of Life).

Producer Andrew Baker is a big fan, which is why the first film is reasonably accurate to the book, we have an interview lined up with him and another producer for the Australian Discworld Convention in April, so hopefully he'll be able to share a bit more information about this new film then!

I was floored when I saw that animated adaptation show up in my Disney+ feed. Had no idea it existed, and realized it was already a few years old. I found it to be an excellent take - not perfect, of course - (Hamnpork and Darktan were merged into one character, the concept of the Rat King was a little rushed, and Dangerous Bean's role was reduced more than I liked) but well done, and very enjoyable. I am quite curious what the sequel would be,

Someone put some excerpts on youtube and the algorithm offered them to me recently, so I watched a few with deep reservations. I was pleasantly surprised by one thing. When Maurice talks to Death, Death pronounces his name "Morris", not "maw-Reese". Hah! Death always gets it right - he pronounced Teatime the way Teatime wanted it - Teh-a-tim-eh. "Maurice" in British (and New England) English is pronounced Morris, and that was how Sir Terry pronounced it.
That almost made up for the human teeth.
I will look with interest for the sequel. It could be fun, especially since there is no canon to compare (aside from Maurice's fur color).

Producer Andrew Baker told us the whole saga of the "Maurice" pronunciation and how they eventually decided on what to use in the film. (Basically: Rob Wilkins told him the correct pronunciation according to how he and Terry would have said it - "Morris" - and so they got Peaches and Death to use that, whereas Maurice himself goes for the more show-boaty pronunciation and the remaining characters go along with that - but Peaches is stubborn, and Death knows the truth)

We did get to interview Andrew again for the 2026 Australian Discworld Convention, but he has requested that that video not be put on Youtube so unfortunately I can't share that interview with you. However, having watched it, he didn't really talk about the sequel plans much at all, it was mostly about the production on the first film.
