Please can someone tell me which book has for one of its opening scenes a couple of characters going through a traditional opening by patting their pockets and saying in loud voices 'Dam perhaps I left it at home'

I just love this sketch and am going mad trying to find it

Thank you

Welcome to the site Robin.
I don't know how many of Pterry's books you've read, but there are many
sketches like that.As well as the piece you mentioned another favourite of
mine is in Reaperman when Death tries to join the Foreign Legion..Just
priceless.

Katarina is correct, the book you're looking for is The Last Continent. The bledlows of UU are performing the nightly Ceremony of the Keys, which rather resembles the ridiculous pointless set in stone tradition of such things as the State Opening of Parliament.

Hi Silverstreak, Didn't DEATH join the Foreign Legion in Soul Music? I am reading that book at the moment & he is there, buried up to his neck in sand.
